After 45 years of ownership, the owner of this 1956 Ford Thunderbird entrusted the paint restoration to Greg’s Restoration in Rutland, MA. The result is a really nice driver quality Thunderbird, ready for a car show or a cruise night.
These first generation T-birds were Fords answer to the Corvette and many people consider them to be better driving cars. While early Corvettes were equipped with a 6-cylinder the Thunderbird came standard with a 292 ci V-8.
Unique features of the early Thunderbirds included dual exhaust exiting through the rear bumper corners and a removable fiberglass hardtop.
Being too wide and heavy for a true sports car. Ford Motor Company positioned the Tbird as a personal luxury car thereby creating an entirely new class of vehicle.
